Thousand Islands Flat Project Solution to Overpopulation, Jakarta Govt Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government’s Head of Housing Division of the Public Housing and Settlement Areas (PRKP) Suharyati on Thursday announced that the agency has completed the study on residential flat construction to overcome population density in two islands located in the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu); Panggang Island and Kelapa Island. 

"From the results of the study, there are two islands that are feasible to be built for flats, including Hexagon Island in Panggang Island and Panjang Island in Kelapa Island," said Suharyati in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday, September 1, Antaranews reported.

Hexagon Island is located at the western end of Panggang Island with a land area of about 8,064 square meters. While Panjang Island has a land area of approximately 12 hectares.

The construction of the flats on the two islands was planned to start in 2024. It will have four floors with a 216-room capacity. Meanwhile, the manufacture of detailed technical design drawings that are used as a reference for project implementation or Detail Engineering Design (DED) to begin in 2023.

Suharyanti said the Thousand Islands PRKP Sub-department began to disseminate the results of the feasibility study on the location for the construction of flats to residents who live in Pulau Panggang Village and Pulau Kelapa Village.
