TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that 11 police personnel were detained due to alleged ethical code violations in handling the murder case of Brigadier J or Nopryansah Yosua Hutabarat. Three of them are high-ranking officers.
Listyo Sigit said the special team continues the investigation of the violation of codes of ethics. As of last Tuesday, the team grilled 31 officers. The number of personnel detained for questioning also increased from four to 11.
“Yesterday, we interrogate 25 personnel, and the number increased to 31. We have also made a special placement for four personnel some time ago and currently, it has increased to 11 personnel, consisting of one two-star general, two one-star generals, two senior commissioner police, three adjunct senior commissioners, two commissioners, and one adjunct commissioner. And the number may still increase,” said Listyo Sigit.
However, he did not mention details about those who are being examined and in detention. The Head of the National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, was also reluctant to mention the names.
Reports suggest that the three high-ranking officers mentioned are former police’s internal affairs division chief Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, former head of the police’s internal security bureau Brigadier General Hendra Kurniawan, and former head of the military police or provost bureau Brigadier General Benny Ali.
Ferdy Sambo was detained last Saturday as announced by the National Police Chief. The three of them were dismissed at the end of last week and placed in the Police Headquarters Service (Yanma).
Of the three suspects, Ferdy Sambo has been named a suspect. The National Police Chief stated that Ferdy was the one who ordered Bharada Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu a.k.a Bharada E to shoot Brigadier J.
Brigadier J’s family lawyer Kamaruddin Simanjuntak said Brigadier General Hendra Kurniawan intimidated Yosua’s family, while Benny Ali was the one who forced Yosua’s younger brother to sign a letter of approval for an autopsy request which was later found to be in a violation of procedure.
