TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka allowed residents, especially youngsters, to hold a street fashion show in the city like the Citayam Fashion Week in Dukuh Atas, Jakarta. Yet he barred the event from being held in the middle of the road.
The Citayam Fashion Week recently seized the public spotlight and has become a trend in several other cities.
“What’s clear is, we support the creativity of young people,” said Gibran at the Solo City Hall on Friday, July 29, 2022.
However, the eldest son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo warned the public that such an event should be held in an orderly fashion. He also restricted the street fashion show to be held in pedestrian crossings so as not to cause congestion and endanger the safety of other road users.
Gibran also emphasized that these public activities must not have a negative impact, for example as a place of existence for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender or LGBT community.
“Don't let it become an arena for LGBT people,” the Mayor remarked.
If an event like Jakarta’s Citayam Fashion Week is held in Solo, Gibran said the regional administration would first monitor the enthusiasm of the community.
