Policemen Shootout: Family of Deceased Suspect Premeditated Murder; Files Complaint

18 July 2022 13:38 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The lawyer representing brigadier Nopryansyah Yosua Hutabarat - who was killed in an alleged shootout with a fellow police officer last week - has filed a report to the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) over what the family believes to be an act of premeditated murder.

The coordinator of the victim’s advocacy team Kamaruddin Simanjuntak said relatives of the victim also reported other alleged criminal violations in the death of brigadier Nopryansyah.

"We made a police report regarding the alleged crime of premeditated murder as referred to in Article 340 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with murder, as referred to in Article 338 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with torture resulting in the death of another person, in conjunction with Article 351 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code," he said when met at the National Police Headquarters, Monday. , July 18.

The lawyer claims to have obtained pieces of evidence that support the claims.

The police stated that Brigadier Nopryansah Yosua Hutabarat died after being involved in a shootout with Bharada RE, who was an aide to the Head of the Professional and Security Division, Inspector General Ferdy Sambo. The family found a number of cuts and bruises on Joshua's body which were not reported by Karopenmas.

"First (the wound) under the eye, then on the nose, lips, on the shoulder, then on the hand or finger, then on the leg," said Kamaruddin.

The victim’s family also reported to the police an alleged attempt to steal brigadier Nopryansyah's three mobile phones, all of which were unable to be found by police investigators following the deadly incident. They are also filing a complaint against an alleged hacking attempt.

The police stated that Joshua died at Ferdy Sambo's halfway house on Friday, July 8, 2022. He is said to have abused the wife of the two-star general while in the room.

According to the police, Ferdy's wife screamed, and finally, Bharada RE and Joshua engaged in a shootout which resulted in Brigadier J dying on the spot after receiving seven gunshot wounds according to police information

A number of people stated that there were many irregularities in this case, starting from the late announcement by the National Police on Monday, July 11, the broken security cameras or CCTVs at the location of the incident up to Joshua's missing cell phone.

To investigate the case of Brigadier J's death, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo also formed a special team that included the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) and the National Police Commission (Kompolnas).
