TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Kingdom (UK) granted financial assistance for the development of low-carbon transport projects in Indonesia as part of the Future Cities: UK-Indonesia Low Carbon Partnership. The funding is worth £9 million or equal to Rp162 billion.
“The Indonesian government through the Transportation Ministry welcomes the implementation of this partnership programs which are expected to develop a sustainable and eco-friendly urban transportation system in Indonesia,” said Director General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry Hendro Sugiatno in his statement as quoted on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.
The program is the first step in the commitment of the two countries to mitigate the impacts of climate change through the development of environmentally friendly urban public transport.
The funds will be disbursed for the development of urban transportation in North Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and South Sulawesi.
The deal was signed by Secretary-General of the Transportation Ministry Novie Riyanto and the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Owen Jenkins. This is a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding between Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and his British counterpart Wendy Morton MP in June 2022.
