TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Covid-19 cases increased by 2,248 in the last 24 hours as of today, June 30. According to the national Covid-19 Task Force, Jakarta reported the most new infections with 1,255 cases. Right now, there are 16,790 active cases in Indonesia.
Since the first cases were identified in the country in March 2020, the new coronavirus has infected 6,088,460 people in Indonesia.
Authorities today also reported 1,626 recoveries, bringing the country's number of Covid survivors to 5,914,933 people.
Meanwhile, six people died from Covid-19 today, raising the disease's death toll in Indonesia to 156,737 cases.
Yesterday, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin predicted that Jakarta's Covid-19 transmission rate would reach a peak soon.
"Jakarta is the most affected by Omicron. In my opinion, Jakarta will soon reach its peak," he said in a press statement at the Health Ministry Building in South Jakarta, Wednesday, June 29.
Referring to the Delta wave that occurred in Indonesia last July, Budi said that the peak of Covid-19 cases at the population level occurred when the dominance of virus variants was above 80 percent of the total population.
