TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will prepare compensation for cows infected with foot and mouth disease that are disposed of or forcibly killed. The compensation value might reach Rp10 million per head.
“[The compensation will be] for farmers of MSMEs,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in a press statement after meeting with President Jokowi at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Thursday, June 23, 2022.
This policy is one of the measures agreed upon by the government to deal with the disease. At present, the outbreak has spread to 4,614 sub-districts. 1,765 of them or 38 percent have been declared red zones.
The government then formed a task force led by the Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General Suharyanto, banned livestock in the red zone, and approved the procurement of 29 million doses of vaccine for cattle this year.
All purchases of vaccines used funds from the COVID-19 Handling Committee and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) chaired by Airlangga.
Airlangga also said President Jokowi instructed him to prepare vaccinators and medicines. The government would also tighten the measures to prevent the virus that caused foot and mouth disease from spreading further.
