TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, on Friday, made sure that the handling of Indonesia’s Covid-19 pandemic remains under control even though the national task force reported a trend of the rising number of cases in a number of regions.
“I have asked them to monitor this. There were a growing number of cases because three weeks up to a month ago there was the Eid celebration. But I assume this rising number is still under control,” said the President in Bogor on June 10.
He further explained that Indonesia’s positivity rate is at 1.03 percent, whereas the Health Ministry stated that in order to consider the pandemic under control, the positivity rate must be below 5 percent.
Apart from the rather small positivity rate, he said the transmission rate is also under control with an average of 20 per 100,000 population.
"It is under control, though remaining vigilant is crucial. This is why I assert the importance for people to get booster shots," said Jokowi.
Previously, the Covid-19 task force revealed a growing trend of daily cases across five provinces, namely the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Banten, East Java, Jakarta, and West Java. In yesterday's report, weekly Covid-19 cases recorded an increase of 571 cases, while daily active cases rose by 328, or 10 percent, from 3,105 cases on June 2 to 3,433 cases.
