TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, in a cabinet meeting on Monday, said he aspires to hold weekly meetings that specifically discuss food and energy issues that he deemed are crucial for the national economic stability.
“I already asked the cabinet secretary to hold a weekly meeting, similar to this limited meeting we talk about the public mobility restriction (PPKM), but for food and energy,” said the President in opening the cabinet meeting on May 9, Antaranews reported.
Jokowi emphasized that food and energy management is extremely important for economic stability, especially price stability and the fulfillment of people's basic needs. He also reminded his staff to be mindful of the current global economic turmoil as the war in Ukraine is yet to show signs of ending and is rather showing signs of protracting.
Global uncertainty has become increasingly uncertain as a result of the war, and also due to United States’ more aggressive monetary policy in reducing inflation, he said.
"This will cause a recession in many countries. Therefore, macroeconomic management must really be followed in detail,” he explained, “And in terms of micromanagement, all state ministries tied to these issues must take notice of these issues on food and energy.”
