Jokowi Intends to Mediate between Russia, Ukraine at G20 Summit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a press conference on Friday expressed his intention to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine at the G20 Bali summit slated for November this year.
As an initial step towards this goal, according to him, communications have been established with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday evening of April 28 where the two leaders talked about a plethora of issues, one of them is mediating the two countries in conflict.
“In yesterday’s phone call, I invited President Zelensky to attend the G20 summit,” said Jokowi in the press conference earlier today.
Jokowi also established communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday to talk about the latest updates on the negotiation between Russia and Ukraine. As reported earlier, Jokowi urged Putin to give peace negotiations a chance.
“Indonesia is prepared to contribute to the attempts towards peace,” said Jokowi, “During the call, President Putin conveyed his appreciation for the invitation to the G20 Summit and confirmed that he will be present.”
