Jakarta to Ease COVID-19 Restrictions, Ready to Enter Endemic

24 March 2022 20:39 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia’s capital of Jakarta has gradually eased various COVID-19 restrictions during the enforcement of the public mobility restrictions or PPKM period in preparing to enter the endemic phase.

“We are going stage by stage to enter an endemic [situation],” said Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria at the City Hall, as quoted from Antara on Thursday, March 24.

The government, he explained, has provided more spaces for a number of public activities. Among them are the full capacity of public transportation and face-to-face learning (PTM) that is planned to be resumed at 100 percent capacity.

The government also allows people who have received the complete dose of COVID-19 vaccine and a booster dose to go for Eid homecoming or mudik to celebrate this year’s Eid al-Fitr which will fall in early May. Mass tarawih prayers and Eid prayers are also possible amid the lingering COVID-19 pandemic.

“What has not been allowed is holding fast-breaking gatherings, especially for state apparatus (ASN) and others. This is directly conveyed by the President,” Riza added.

Though restrictions are relaxed, the Deputy Governor encouraged people to keep complying with the predetermined health protocols because the COVID-19 trend remains dynamic.
