TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government announced its plan to completely turn electric in terms of government vehicles. However, no details have emerged on the specific date when Jakarta would impose it.
This was mentioned by Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan himself as he attended Tuesday's launch of the city’s TransJakarta electric bus fleet.
“Jakarta is in a gradual process of replacing [traditional] vehicles to electric-powered vehicles. Official government vehicles will also be electric-powered,” he said on March 8, Antaranews reported.
The governor said launching the TransJakarta electric bus fleet is at the top priority as it is hoped to greatly reduce the number of carbon emissions and reduce traffic.
“This is why we launched the public transport electrification first instead of official government vehicles as the number of vehicles in the street will remain the same if the latter is done,” said Anies Baswedan.
