TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Doni Salmanan, a social media personality known for "flexing" his wealth, has been named a suspect by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in relation to an alleged binary option fraud and money laundering.
His suspect naming came after police interrogated Doni, who is an affiliator of the binary option “trading” platform Quotex, for nearly 13 hours at the police criminal investigation unit (Bareskrim) headquarters on Tuesday, March 8.
Salmanan currently faces multiple charges for suspected violation against the ITE Law, Criminal Code (KUHP), and money laundering and faces prison time up to 20 years.
13 hour interrogation
Doni Salmanan was initially questioned by police as a witness to the case regarding binary option fraud. During his lengthy interrogation, police also gathered statements from victims, experts of law, linguistics, and technology.
Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan on Tuesday said the binary affiliator was immediately arrested after police deemed Doni Salmanan a hazard who could potentially escape overseas and destroy evidence.
The suspect naming comes just days after police named another binary option affiliator for the Binomo app Indra Kenz as suspect..
