TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bogor city government of West Java is taking two measures, long-term and short-term, in responding to the increase in tempeh price by around Rp2,000 per one-kilogram package.
Deputy Mayor of Bogor Dedie A. Rachim told Antara in Bogor, Thursday, Feb. 17, that for the short-term measure, residents are advised to temporarily switch from soybean-based foods to other protein foods.
“Because as we’ve been informed, the raw material for tofu tempeh is averagely imported, and that is hampered by port and container distribution routes due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Dedie explained.
He said the regional government would always coordinate with the central government and related parties to ensure the distribution of raw materials, namely soybeans, could return to normal albeit it would take time.
The Bogor of domestic trade development head Mohamad Soleh previously said the price hike of the commodity was unavoidable as predicted by the central government.
Soleh said that based on his team’s monitoring show, the price of tempeh in two traditional markets, namely Pasar Bogor and Pasar Kebon Kembang, per kilogram increased by 15 percent from Rp13,000 to Rp15,000 as the price of imported soybeans from the distributors rose from Rp10,700 to Rp11,500 per kilogram.
