TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Confederation of Indonesian Workers Union (KSPI) president Said Iqbal confirmed that workers planned to hold a large-scale rally if the government does not immediately revise the Manpower Ministerial Regulation or Permenaker No. 2 of 2022 concerning the payment of old-age benefit funding or JHT.
The rule stipulating the procedures and requirements for the payment of JHT is considered very burdensome for workers given that the withdrawal can only be made when workers are at age 56.
If the government of Joko "Jokowi" Widodo does not immediately revise the regulation, Said asserted, large demonstrations will be carried out by workers throughout Indonesia. Moreover, he opined there is potential for a large wave of layoffs during the lingering pandemic.
“JHT is one of the important grips when workers face layoffs,” added Said in an official statement, Sunday, Feb. 13.
The plan of the street rallies, he went on, was also inspired after monitoring regulations released by Minister Manpower Ida Fauziyah which was considered to often oppress workers.
Other than asking for the revision of the policy on the JHT program, Said said workers also urged President Jokowi to immediately dismiss Minister Ida for only prioritizing business people.
