Jokowi Arrives in Bintan to Meet Singapore PM; Discuss Travel Bubble

  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi arrived in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands for a number of activities. His main agenda is to meet Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at The Sanchaya Resort on Tuesday, January 25.

    Among the topics discussed in the bilateral meeting is the preparation for the inauguration of the travel bubble for Batam, Bintan-Singapore.

    "The president will discuss preparations for the inauguration of the travel bubble," Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad said yesterday, January 24.

    Ansar hopes that the policy will be the starting point for the economic revival of Riau Islands' tourism sector.

    According to Ansar, Jokowi will visit the Galang Batang SEZ area to review vaccinations, among other activities.

    "What's important is that this visit is an important moment for Riau Islands' economic revival after the pandemic," he said.

    On Tuesday morning, January 25, 2022, Jokowi started his day by walking on the beachfront of The Sanchaya Resort. He was accompanied by of Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Governor Ansar Ahmad.
