TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) has recommended the formation of the Homeland Security Ministry and the National Security Council given the absence of a political foundation that formulates national policies pertaining to domestic security.
“It is necessary to have a political foundation that is on a par with a ministry to devise national policies on domestic security,” said Lemhanas Governor Agus Widjojo in his year-end statement on Friday, December 31, 2021.
Agus hoped the existence of such a foundation could help Indonesia posses an effective and efficient national system through amplified foundational capacity.
According to Agus, the absence of this foundation had left empty space in the homeland security field, whereas the planning of domestic security policies was pivotal to the country.
Agus said the establishment of the National Security Council was also crucial to the central government to ensure the integration of construction and supervision of national policies. Agus said this council should focus on keeping tabs on national security policies besides devising and controlling the policies in general.
“The development of foundational capacity has become a priority program to shun any overlaps of roles and functions among foundations,” Agus Widjojo said.
