TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan launched the Prof Abdulrachman Saleh Ambulance Boat to provide health services for residents in Kepulauan Seribu or Thousand Islands. The launching event was held at Pola Room of City Hall on Thursday, December 23.
“We want to provide equal service for residents living in the islands. We are sending a message to all residents of the capital that equality of opportunity and services must exist”, said Anies in a written statement.
He explained that the ambulance boat was named after the national hero from Jakarta who was also one of the pioneers in Indonesian aviation, Abdulrachman Saleh.
“During his life, he was nicknamed karbol which means a role model. He was one of the doctors in the early period [of the country’s independence] from Jakarta, the father of physiology, and so on,” said Anies.
Indonesia, he added, has many people who gave their lives to fight for justice, not just independence.
The ambulance boat has three rooms; an advance room, an infectious room which is equipped with a HEPA filter, and a basic room equipped with an incubator. Anies Baswedan hoped that the ship could help in handling emergency health services.
