TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the capital city government will limit public activity to prevent the spread of Omicron, a Covid-19 new variant. He said that the central and regional governments have conducted anticipative measures by limiting foreign arrivals, especially those from countries in southern part of Africa.
"Not only limiting people's entry, but also reducing mobility, crowd, capacity and operational hours," he said in Jakarta today, November 30.
To prevent Covid transmission, the quarantine period for international travellers has been extended to 7 days from the previous 3-5 days.
Riza also requested Jakarta residents to strictly maintain health protocol to prevent Covid-19, especially with the latest increase of public mobility restrictions or PPKM to level 2. The government soon will issue a new Governor Regulations in accordance with the Home Affairs Minister Instruction No. 63/2021.
The government has temporarily closed international arrivals at Indonesian airports by withholding the visa of foreigners that have traveled to African countries in the last 14 days. The countries include South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambiumque, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as Hong Kong.
Those who are exempted from the policy are holders of diplomatic visa and foreign officials at ministerial level, as they are included in the Travel Corridor Arrangement. G20 countries delegation are also exempted from this policy.
"Addition can be made to the list if there is confirmation of local transmission in other countries," said Covid-19 Task Force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito yesterday, Nov. 29.
Meanwhile, Indonesian citizens with travel history to several African countries and Hong Kong in the last 14 days are allowed to return but must be quarantined for 14 days. Travelers from other countries must be quarantined for 7 days.
The addition of quarantine days from 3-5 days to 7-14 days is a precautionary measure by the government to prevent the spread of Omicron in the country.
