TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A flooding of 120 cm high in Mampang, South Jakarta, receded after four hours. Heavy rainfall caused the river in Bangka, Mampang, to overflow and inundated 480 houses in Mampang river banks, causing the people to evacuate to a higher place.
A resident named Tukul said the 120 cm of floodwaters inundated the area from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. He said that it was caused by the heavy rain and the overflowing of Mampang river.
"The water started to rise when the rain fell. In two hours, the floodwater rose to 120 cm," said Tukul Saturday, Nov. 13.
A number of people evacuated to a mosque and some stayed at the second floor of their houses. According to Tukul, their residencial area is often flooded when heavy rains fall.
They are ready to evacuate when the water rises to 70 cm. "When they're evacuating, they've prepared food and water," he said.
The flood started to recede at midnight and completely receded at 2 a.m. on Saturday.
