TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy of Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Lestari Moerdijat said that young people have the opportunity to change the Legislative Institutions perception for the better, but the change needs to come from within.
"Competent and conscientious people participations is needed to fix legislative institutions image," said Lestari in an online Legislative Training themed "Building a qualified and integrity Young Legislator" in Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes), Ministry of Health, Bandung, West Java on Monday, October 31 2021.
That training was also attended by Saan Mustopa (Commision II Deputy of DPR RI), Aan Andi Purnama (Member of Commision A and Bandung's DPRD budget board), Panusunan Siregar (FL2MI) and Poltekkes Bandung academic community.
Rerie, Lestari's nickname, admitted that public perception towards political parties and legislative institutions is still below its lowest points. Because of that, it becomes an important task to fix that first, because a legislative institution must be able to assimilate public aspirations to realize it through the duties and authorities mandated by the constitution.
To assimilate and encourage people's aspirations, Rerie explained that DPR and DPRD seats must be filled with competent and conscientious representatives. She hoped the next generation can understand the legislative process in state governance from an early age and this can be attained by increasing the literacy of young people regarding the legislative process.
Deputy of Commission II, Saan Mustopa also explained his duty and authority as a legislative member, and according to him, reputation is a valuable thing for politicians because that contains integrity, a must-have factor as a legislator.
