TEMPO.CO, Kendari - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) carried out a sting operation on Tuesday, September 21. Andi Merya Nur, Regent of East Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, was caught red-handed in the operation.

The anti-graft body also apprehended the Head of East Kolaka Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Anzarullah and four other people.

“We are still undergoing investigations in the Southeast Sulawesi Police’s General Crimes Directorate,” the Southeast Sulawesi Police spokesman Comr. Dolfie Kumaseh told Tempo on Wednesday, September 22.

Andy Merya, a United Development Party or PPP politician, became the first female regent in Southeast Sulawesi for the period 2021-2024. She was sworn in by Southeast Sulawesi Governor Ali Mazi on June 14, 2021, to replace Samsul Bahri Madjid who died of a heart attack in June 2021.

East Kolaka Regent Andy Merya and Anzarullah were taken from East Kolaka to the Southeast Sulawesi Police Headquarters in Anduonohu, Kendari City, using two cars and arrived in the middle of the night. Dolfie said the KPK mobilized ten officers to launch the sting operation.
