TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House Speaker Puan Maharani has called on policy makers to keep an eye on the possible revenge tourism phenomenon to keep it from being counterproductive to the government’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
“This is certainly good for both tourists and the tourism industry, but it is necessary to keep tabs on these revenge travels to keep them from being excessive,” Puan said in a written statement on Monday, September 20, 2021.
Thus, she called on tourism policy makers—from regional and central governments to tourist attraction managements and tourists—to always comply with the health protocols.
“Don’t let us overlook the health protocols at the points that are in fact prone to infections. If necessary, always wear face masks even when we take pictures at tourist sites,” she added.
Puan also appealed to tourist site managements to abide by the government’s regulations regarding maximum capacity and the Health Ministry new normal policies on healthy life behaviors at tourist sites, environmental hygiene, toilets and air circulation.
“The comfort and safety of people who visit tourist sites must become a priority,” she said.
