TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Governor Lukas Enembe on Friday offered his deep condolences for the death of healthcare workers who died in an attack by a local armed criminal group (KKB) at the Pegunungan Bintang in the Kiwirok District.
The governor’s spokesperson Muhammad Rifai Darus said the livelihood of the survivors of the heinous attack will be guaranteed by the government. He also urged law enforcers to investigate the incident.
He called for the search of missing healthcare workers to continue but the safety of the rescue team must be taken into precedence, Antaranews reported.
“Residents of the Pegunungan Bintang must remain calm and alert as the government along with law enforcers strongly continue their protection for the local residents,” Darus wrote in a statement on September 17.
The Governor regretted that healthcare workers were targeted in the cowardly attack as their services are critical amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in Papua.
