TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry in a statement on Thursday, Sept. 9, announced that it has granted scholarships for 330 Papuan university students in the government’s affirmative program for the largest and easternmost region in the country.
The scholarships were given to 280 students at the PTKKN or State Christian University and 50 students from public universities.
Citing Antaranews, a Religious Affairs Ministry representative said this is the attempt to elevate the livelihood of Indonesians and give the students their right to receive proper and high quality education. This program has been running for two years. Last year, the scholarship was granted to 253 students.
“The Ministry is committed to build a Papua that is dignified and proud through ‘We Love Papua/Papua Pride’ program in the field of religion and education,” wrote Religious Affairs Deputy Minister Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi on September 9.
Sa'adi then called for the college students in Papua to actively participate in bringing change for the nation. As the agents of change, the students are asked to use their scholarship opportunities to pave their way in developing their lives and the country.
