Pandemic Aid Corruption: Former Minister Sentenced to 12 Years in Jail

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor) panel of judges in Monday’s trial has sentenced former social minister Juliari Batubara to 12 years behind bars in the graft case of COVID-19 pandemic aid (Bansos).
Presiding judge Muhammad Damis announced the verdict of 12 years' imprisonment and a fine of Rp500 million subsidiary to six months in jail.
The former minister must also pay back the state in the sum of up to Rp14.5 billion and will have his belongings seized to cover the state losses due to his corruption if the fine is not paid within a certain time frame.
“If his belongings do not suffice they will then be replaced by two years' imprisonment,” said the judge.
Juliari Batubara will also be banned from taking positions in public offices for four years after serving his time.
