TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) issued a permit for cellular service provider XL Axiata to host 5G commercial services in the Indonesian market. The permit was issued on Thursday, August 12, 2021.
"Today, we welcome the participation of XL Axiata which had recently obtained its Operational Feasibility Certificate for 5G services as of August 6," said Telecommunications and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate in a press conference on August 12, 2021.
XL Axiata becomes the third cellular operator that provides 5G communication services along with Telkomsel and Indosat Ooredoo, which have provided the service last year in 2020.
The Feasibility Certificate from the Ministry was issued after XL conducted a test of its 5G services in the Margonda area in Depok, West Java on August 5, 2021.
XL Axiata President Director Dian Siswarini, said that the company will be using the 1.8 to 2.1 GHz frequency spectrum to provide 5G services.
Johnny said that the increasing number of telecommunication operators ready to provide 5G services means that commercial 5G services can continue to develop in Indonesia.
The Ministry of Telecommunications and Informatics explained that the government adopts a neutral technology policy for 5G adoption. This means that cellular operators are given full discretion to choose their own technology to utilize the radio spectrum to provide their services as stated in the license.
