TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) on Thursday reported 59 deaths from Covid-19. Over the past 30 days, from July 5 to August 5, the province recorded 2,000 lives lost to the novel coronavirus.

The local Covid-19 Task Force spokesman, Berty Murtiningsih, said that Yogyakarta's total Covid casualty has now reached 3,693 deaths.

"The case fatality rate of Covid-19 in [Yogyakarta] is now 2.94 percent and the recovery rate is 66.50 percent," Berty said on Friday, August 6.

Corroborating Berty, the Yogyakarta's Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Support Post for Covid-19 Task Force's Operations said that from August 1 to 5 alone they handled 417 bodies of people who died from Covid-19.

"August 1 was the day we handled the most deaths—both from health care facilities and home isolation—with 104 bodies in one day," the post's deputy commander Indrayanto said on Friday.
