TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan spoke with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, on Wednesday, August 4, which he shared through his Instagram account, @aniesbaswedan. On his post, Anies said that London and Jakarta share the same spirit in facing the climate crisis, even though they are not sister cities.
Both Jakarta and London are known to be members of the C40 Cities organization. Anies is optimistic that Jakarta can rise amid the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Jakarta continues to work on the movement to overcome the climate crisis by becoming a resilient and zero-emission city," the Jakarta Governor wrote on his post.
He also described Jakarta and London to have similar characteristics as metropolitan cities resulting from agglomeration. Both cities are the capital of the country as well as the backbone of the national economy.
"Both Jakarta and London also have the same diplomacy in the climate of the C40 forum. Therefore, we in Jakarta are ready to collaborate and exchange experiences between the two cities," said Anies.
Anies Baswedan also asked Khan to be the main speaker at the 2021 Jakarta Investment Forum in November. This is one of Indonesia's commitments to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the UK in the field of climate change.
