TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry spokesperson for Covid-19 vaccination, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, asserted that the paid Covid-19 vaccine program is not mandatory.
“This Gotong Royong vaccination for individuals is not mandatory and will not cut off the public's right to obtain free vaccines through the government vaccination program,” Nadia told Tempo on Monday, July 12.
She explained that due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the ministry received suggestions to accelerate vaccination through individual channels. On this basis, the self-paid vaccination is only an option to speed up the vaccination.
As for the implementation, she ensured that it would not hinder the government's vaccination program. “Because [the vaccination will use] a different type of vaccine, health facilities, and health workers,” she added.
According to Nadia, the Gotong Royong vaccination for individuals would only use doses by Sinopharm, while the government vaccines used Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Novavax.
The individually-paid Covid-19 vaccination would be accessible at eight clinics of Kimia Farma and cost Rp879,140 per person for two vials.
