TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A politician from the National Mandate Party (PAN) Irene Rumareuw on Wednesday argued that state officials should be given extra privilege to access hospital care for Covid-19, as they are tasked to serve the public.
The PAN deputy secretary, who is also a doctor, said such a facility already exists, as the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital would often be used by state officials for treatment. However, she said the government must provide special healthcare facilities for them amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As the coronavirus was born, the Health Ministry must be more aware. Because these state officials must be given the privilege as they are tasked to think about the nation and its people,” said Rosaline in an online seminar on July 7.
She recalled helping many state officials look for Covid-19 referral hospitals in Jakarta for the past two months. The politician claimed that many were unable to find available beds as they arrived at emergency facilities.
This happened to John Siffy Mirin - a fellow PAN politician and Commission III member of the House of Representatives (DPR). John unfortunately succumbed to Covid-19 as they were looking for a room for him on July 3.
She also regretted that she had to beg for an available room as a politician with connections to the legislation.
