TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Corruption Watch or ICW expressed its dismay over the unwillingness of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to appeal the light sentence given to Pinangki Sirna Malasari in Djoko Tjandra case.
The ICW sarcastically congratulated attorney general Sanitiar Burhanudin and everyone at the AGO for "successfully" agreeing with the four-year sentence.
“ICW would like to 'congratulate' ST Burhanudin as Attorney General and his coworkers within the Attorney General’s Office for successfully defending the light sentence against Pinangki Sirna Malasari,” ICW researcher, Kurnia Ramadhana, said on July 6.
He also "congratulated" the Supreme Court for playing down the corruption eradication attempt and failing to hand the convict a maximum sentence.
According to Kurnia, the way the case was handled is a joke as many pieces of evidence were being ignored by the AGO. One of which was the alleged involvement of a high-ranking official within the country’s legal body who guaranteed Pinangki would be met with Djoko Tjandra.
