TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government’s plan to enforce a stricter public activity restriction policy dubbed PPKM Darurat or Emergency PPKM will affect the operating hours of shopping malls. Under the new policy, malls are only allowed to open until 5 p.m.
However, malls in areas imposing tightened Micro PPKM can operate until 8 p.m. The latest measure will reportedly divide areas into four zones, starting from the medium to the emergency level.
Tempo received information from a source that the restricted operating hours of shopping centers will be applied to areas classified as red and orange zones or at high-risk virus transmission. The number of visitors is also limited to only 25 percent of the total capacity with strict health protocols.
This Covid-19 restriction will also be applied to places of worship located in the red and orange zones. Besides, mass religious activities will be banned in areas with severe virus transmission.
Meanwhile, for areas outside the red and orange zones, religious activities will be regulated by the Religious Affairs Ministry with the implementation of strict health protocols.
The government reportedly planned to impose the Emergency PPKM from July 2 until July 20 as the Covid-19 trend in the archipelago was getting worse. The policy evaluation will be carried out every two weeks. If the number of daily cases is below 20,000 per day, the government will lower the PPKM Micro status.
