TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Jokowi Widodo has again reminded the people about the importance of Covid-19 vaccination. The immunization is one of the government's efforts to suppress the rate of Covid-19 cases.
The public is urged to not hesitate to participate in vaccinations as soon as they have the opportunity. “If there is a chance to get a vaccine, take it immediately. Don't refuse, because no religion forbids vaccines. This is for our safety,” he said as broadcasted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Wednesday, June 23.
He underlined that the vaccine is the best effort that is currently available. Indonesia must achieve herd immunity to contain the pandemic.
“So before it is achieved, we must remain disciplined and take care of ourselves, especially by wearing face masks. I ask for one simple thing: stay at home if there is no urgent need,” the state head remarked.
The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia continues to increase. The highest daily rise throughout the pandemic was recorded on June 21, with 14,536 cases.
Jokowi also asserted that the government cannot control the Covid-19 pandemic without public's cooperation. “Only with joint steps, we stop this pandemic. Everyone must participate. Everyone must contribute. Without the unity, we will not be able to stop the spread of Covid-19,” he concluded.
