Authorities Investigate Alleged Involvement of Papua Officials in Firearms Trade

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police is currently investigating the incident involving people from the Puncak administration in Papua who allegedly helped supply firearms for local armed criminal group (KKB).
Police’s suspicion came from a diary confiscated from illegal firearms and ammunition supplier Ratius Murib or Neson Murib. His note also suggested that the Puncak administration helped fund Rp600 million to the Lekagak Telenggen group.
Neson was previously arrested at the Mulia Airport in Puncak Jaya Regency on June 14. The police are currently questioning him to reveal the identities Neson wrote in his diary.
Neson Murib, according to police, got up to Rp1.3 billion in the illegal firearms trade. Police confiscated Rp370 million in cash as he was arrested, which the police believe was aimed to be used to purchase weapons for one of the suspect’s clients.
“We are currently digging into the involvement of those names,” said Sr. Comm. Iqbal Alqudusy, spokesperson of the Papua task force ‘Nemangkawi’ on June 17. “We will surely question the people who are allegedly involved based on the transfers to the suspect."
