2024 Presidential Election; Jokowi Calls on Supporters to Be Patient

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo asked his volunteer supporters grouped under Seknas Jokowi to be more patient in determining their position in the 2024 Presidential Election. He emphasized that there is still time to make a decision.

“I suggest that volunteers observe first. Don't be in a hurry. Let's see the political constellation together, let's study the political map,” said the President at the opening of the 2021 Seknas national meeting broadcasted via its YouTube channel on Sunday, June 13.

He added that many volunteers asked him about the position of Seknas Jokowi towards the 2024 presidential election in the last few weeks. He claimed to have understood the situation. Moreover, the group had proven to lead him to be elected twice.

“I know that Jokowi volunteers, including Seknas Jokowi, are attractive. They will definitely be pulled here and there by candidates who will run in the 2024 presidential election,” he said.

He added that a volunteer group had been drawn to support one of the candidates or persuaded to support other candidates. “But many are still waiting,” he said.

There is still time before the election begins, Jokowi underlined. Instead, volunteers are asked to help the government to contain the Covid-19 pandemic which caused a health and economic crisis.

“The health and safety of the people must be prioritized. Indonesia must be strong in facing the pandemic. But we also want the economy to grow quickly,” said Jokowi.
