TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan spoke up about the accusations against him that he received a luxury house from a reclamation developer. He said those who accused him must prove their claims.
“I don’t need to prove them because I am accused. The one who should prove them is the accuser,” said Anies at the City Hall on Monday, May 24, 2021.
He also asked journalists to take this moment to think critically. News media, he added, needed to prove if the allegations were true.
“If there is such an issue, you (reporters) must chase where it comes from, the address and the number [of the accuser]. So the news provided will be complete. This is an opportunity for you all to show whether this issue is valid or not,” said Anies.
Previously, there rumors were rife on social media that the Jakarta Governor received a gratuity in the form of a luxury house in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. A number of Twitter accounts posted photos of the house said to be a gratification from a developer of a reclamation island.
Tempo searched for the photos of the house said to be a gift for Anies Baswedan using the Yandex Reverse Image Search. The results showed that photos of the same house had been uploaded to various sites of property sales, such as rumahdijual.com and realoka.com, and that the house is located in Cipayung, East Jakarta.
