Jokowi Wants Faster Budget Use to Push Economic Recovery

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said that the government will continue to focus on economic recovery and structural reform for 2022. He conveyed it in his opening speech at the national development planning conference in the State Palace on Tuesday.
According to Jokowi, the initial foundation to achieve economic recovery is certainly the government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The government work plan in 2022 will still focus on economic recovery and structural reform,” the President said on May 4.
He requested state officials to fast-track the government spending, especially the social aid and government assistance for the labor intensive sector. The president also asked to boost public spending that will increase demands.
The central government recorded Rp182 trillion in the Regional Budgets (APBD) which has yet to be spent. On another note, the government has initiated a massive structural reform through the adoption of the Job Creation Law (UU Cipta Kerja).
“We must push the industry to rise again, workers to start working again, and increase the domestic supplies. But these must be done under strict health protocols, this cannot be bargained,” said President Jokowi.
