TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The large gathering that took place in the downtown area of Jakarta by football fans attracted the attention of national authorities, mainly the national Covid-19 task force that urged lower level governments to act firmly against the football fans who created a crowd amidst the pandemic.
“We hope members of the public, public figures, and religious figures could synergize with the government and local task forces in backing regional-level monitoring,” said Covid-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito on April 27.
Wiku then specifically addressed the specific flash crowd that gathered to celebrate a win of the Jakarta football club.
“This is truly regrettable. There is a plethora of documentation of this activity that clearly shows crowds that violate health protocols and can potentially cause new Covid-19 transmission,” he said.
He also addressed that the massive vaccination programs currently taking place are not a ‘magical’ solution that would suddenly eradicate the coronavirus pandemic and is not a reason to be negligent in implementing proper health protocols.
