TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cyber Team of Jakarta Metro Police detected several social media accounts allegedly inviting Jakmania members to gather at HI Roundabout in the early hours of Monday after the capital’s football club Persija won the 2021 Menpora Cup.
The huge crowd of avid fans was suspected to violate the health protocols against Covid-19 as they did not maintain distance and many of them were not wearing face masks.
The regional police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said the police were still investigating these accounts. “Investigators are still pursuing accounts that provoke a gathering. We will take action against them,” said Yusri at Jakarta Police HQ on Monday, April 26.
However, the police stopped short of revealing the accounts. “We will announce it later once we catch the person,” he added.
Yusri said the police would also ask for clarification from the Persija management regarding the accounts. In the meantime, he appealed to the public not to create a similar crowd as it is prone to Covid-19 transmission.
Jakmania chairman Dicky Soemarno, meanwhile, said his side has not yet received a summon letter from Jakarta Metro Police regarding the crowd of the football supporters. However, Dicky said he is ready to meet the call.
