TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan predicted that Indonesia’s economy in the first quarter will hover around 0 percent. But he is confident that the economic growth will touch the level of 4-5 percent until the end of 2021, unless there are follow up crises related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“For 2021, and from all aspects we observed, we will grow 4-5 percent. But this estimation is only if the situation remains stable as today. But we don't know if there is another Covid case coming down from the skies,” said Luhut Pandjaitan in a national meeting the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT).
He also predicted that the economic recovery will be started in the Q2 based on the developments in the sectors of transportation, accommodation, and warehousing that are starting to grow.
The aforementioned sectors were hard hit and recorded the most contraction in 2020 due to public mobility restrictions.
The government’s national economic recovery (PEN) plan in 2021 with the Rp700 trillion budget has also driven the Minister’s optimism.
