TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said buying domestically-made products was an act of patriotism in the modern era.
“Let’s start from loving Indonesian products, being proud of them, and buying them. So [one example of] modern patriotism is buying Indonesian products,” said Agus as quoted from Antara in Jakarta, Friday, March 5, 2021.
Agus said the national industry had been able to produce various goods needed by the public, ranging from bicycles, cars, motorbikes, to pharmaceutical products. Besides, petrochemical goods produced by domestic industries could also compete in the global market.
This proves that products made by the nation's children should be given the opportunity to grow and develop in their own country.
“On a simple note, give the domestic industry a chance to grow. Purchasing domestic products is a patriotic act,” said Agus.
The Industry Minister’s statement was in line with the program initiated by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo dubbed Bangga Buatan Indonesia (Proud of Indonesian Products). The national movement aims at boosting the use of local products.
Agus said entrepreneurs of the micro, small, medium, or large businesses, along with the government and all Indonesians were expected to participate in the program in a bid to achieve the expected results.
