TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - Bali has earned acclaim as the only province that greatly contributes to waste reduction from the Environment and Forestry Ministry. The award was given at the commemoration event of the 2021 National Waste Awareness Day.

“The Ministry of Environment and Forestry presented 14 awards to 14 regions at the provincial and district/city level. Remarkably, Bali is the only one winning the award at the provincial level,” said the Provincial Forestry and Environment Agency Head, I Made Teja, in Denpasar, Tuesday, February 23.

The award was handed out during the hybrid commemoration of the national day on Monday, February 22. For this achievement, the Provincial Government was also entitled to receive the Regional Incentive Funds (DID) specifically for the waste management totaling Rp5.65 billion.

According to Teja, the Provincial Government met all three criteria required in the assessment, namely strategic waste management policy, efforts to reduce plastic waste, and innovation or creativity in minimizing waste.

Of the 14 awards, Denpasar City and Badung Regency of Bali have also won regional awards for their great work in reducing waste and will receive the Regional Incentive Funds (DID) amounting to Rp80,719,473 and particularly for the waste management category worth Rp6,710,351.

The award assessment at this district/city level includes the regional strategy policy, plastic waste reduction policies, the policy implementation, and innovation or creativity regarding waste reduction, as well as the waste management facilities, such as the composting process, waste banks, and temporary disposal sites in operation or TPS 3R.
