Indonesian Authorities Capture Two Malaysian Fishing Boats in Malacca Strait

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian authorities captured two foreign fishing vessels with Malaysian flags in the waters of the Malacca Strait. The vessels are suspected of poaching in Fisheries Management Area (WPP) 571.
The first ship is KM JHF 4631 B, recorded as operating bubo fish traps. Meanwhile, the second ship is KM. SLFA 4107 which operates trawl fishing gear.
The two boats were captured on Sunday, January 24, 2021.
Officers also arrested seven crew members during the patrol operation, three Malaysian nationals and four Myanmar nationals.
In addition to the two foreign vessels, authorities also captured an Indonesian flagged vessel, KM BAROENA, for operating trawls without documents required by the Ministry.
"All boats will go through legal proceedings according to applicable regulations," Antam Novambar, director general of the Supervision of Marine and Fisheries Resources, said in a written statement, Tuesday, January 26.
