TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The search and rescue team is still attempting to look for the cockpit voice recorder (CVR), part of the black box of the Sriwijaya Air SJ182 plane that crashed into the Thousand Islands waters. The search is done manually, utilizing only the visual abilities of the divers.
“The search [is done] manually. We only rely on patience, professionalism. Just [relying on divers'] visual abilities,” said TNI’s Navy chief of information department Julius Widjono on Saturday, January 16.
The manual search is done since the CVR flash memory was detached from the beacon that is utilized as the signal for navigation. The Navy has previously evacuated the battery and the casing of SJ182’s CVR, which were found separated from the black box memory.
The divers will search in three points around the areas where they found the black box battery and casing. Julius hopes the team can find the CVR on the eighth day as the search in previous days was hampered by the bad weather.
