TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff General (ret.) Moeldoko on Thursday said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had pledged to fulfill the needs of people with disabilities by implementing the derivatives of Law No.8/2016 on people with disabilities.
“The President has ordered a thorough implementation of regulations honouring, protecting, and fulfilling the rights of the disabled,” said Moeldoko in Thursday’s virtual inclusion meeting. “This needs a synergy between the central and regional governments, and also from developing partners.”
According to Moeldoko, President Jokowi intends to actively involve the group in creating an inclusive society, as he believed they were people that had the potential to be the agents of change and were highly competitive.
Moeldoko added the Indonesian government would continue to respect and fulfill the needs and rights of people with disabilities through human rights approaches and not only through charities. He also promised to monitor how the law was implemented in practice.
