TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The legal aid secretary of the newly rebranded Islam United Front (FPI/ Front Pemersatu Islam), Aziz Yanuar, on Monday said that the bank account owned by the mass-organization has been freezed by the Indonesian government.
This is a followup to the government deeming the Islam Defenders Front (FPI/Front Pembela Islam) as an illegal entity and has banned any activities related to the organization. The legality of FPI was taken into question and announced by Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD to be illegal.
“[The bank account] only had tens of millions but was also taken [from us],” said Aziz to Tempo on January 4.
According to Aziz, FPI’s bank account was freezed on December 30, 2020, not long after the government announced the ban against any FPI-related activities. He maintains that the organization does not plan to file a lawsuit to retain the account again and according to Aziz will just leave it to “God’s law in facing acts of cruelty (zalim).”
