Low-Emission Zone; Private Vehicles Banned from Entering Kota Tua Tourist Areas

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial administration prohibited private vehicles from entering Kota Tua (Old Town) from December 18-23, 2020. The Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo said the city carried out a trial of the low-emission zone (LEZ) in the tourist area during the period.
“The implementation of LEZ covers Jalan Pintu Besar Utara - Jalan Kalibesar Barat - southern Jalan Kunir - Jalan Kemukus - Jalan Ketumbar - Jalan Lada,” said Syafrin in his written statement, Friday, December 18, 2020.
Syafrin said people could park their motorized vehicles at the Taman Kota Intan parking area and Glodok parking lot. However, the parking areas provided are limited in a bid to encourage the people to switch to public transportation.
Tourists and workers whose offices in the tourist area are also expected to not bring private vehicles and take existing public transportation, such as the Jabodetabek Commuter Line (KRL), Transjakarta buses, feeder buses, or bicycles.
People can get off at Jakarta Kota Station. Besides, city-owned bus operator Transjakarta provided bus services with GR4 line (Taman Kota Intan-Maritime Museum) operating on Wednesday-Saturday and GR5 line (Kota Tua Explorer) operating every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
