TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin planned to develop a new system and program that are more effective to accelerate the development in Papua and West Papua Provinces.
“We have to build a new system and design, a more effective way of working, in order to produce leaps in prosperity for the people of Papua and West Papua,” said Ma'ruf at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, Dec. 16.
In a meeting of the steering committee of the integrated team for the acceleration of welfare development in the two provinces, Ma'ruf asked his staffers to immediately draft a new system to be implemented in 2021.
He also emphasized that the new system must apply a cultural approach with a priority target of seven customary areas.
The government’s concern over the development of the two provinces was noted in the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 9 of 2020 and Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 20 of 2020.
Vice President also highlighted poverty issues during the meeting. “So we need to put the perspective of these policies into a new spirit and design for Papua as directed by the President (Joko "Jokowi" Widodo) in a limited meeting on March 11, 2020,” said Ma'ruf Amin.
