TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tangerang city administration through its Environment Agency encouraged several industries to use refuse-derived fuel (RDF) as an alternative to coal. Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah explained that RDF is a renewable energy source that is produced from waste.
According to him, RDF is one of the waste management projects that turn waste into fuel briquettes. Several industries have tried to use RDF in a bid to reduce existing piles of waste.
“The production cost from the energy side will be lowered compared to using other fuels,” said Arief when opening a webinar on the potential use of RDF as a substitute for coal, which was attended by representatives of companies in the city, on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Arief admitted that the waste problem is still one of the classic issues faced by most Indonesian regions, including Tangerang city.
Through the webinar, industry players were expected to learn about various benefits of using RDF in overcoming the waste problem in the city and be motivated to use renewable energy. Thus, the industry sector and the city government could help each other.
“The industry can be more efficient, while the city can reduce the burden of urban waste,” said Mayor Arief.
